As more wind turbines pop up along the West Texas horizon, South Plains College says they are ready to help fill these positions to keep them running. The college announced they are adding Wind Energy Technician to its list of degree plans.

The two year degree is geared toward the maintainance side of the business and is expected to be offered starting in the fall of 2009.  "Wind energy in West Texas is a coming thing. It's not if it's when. And we have been timing this for a number of years so we can be gearing up with the training," said Dean of Technical Education Rob Blair.

Texas leads the nation in wind energy and currently there are more than 2,000 wind turbines across the South Plains. Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater is the only other college in Texas to offer this type of degree.
