The Young Professionals of Greater Lubbock honored 20 of the city's youngest and brightest professionals following its Twenty Under Forty awards dinner held at Texas Tech's Frazier Alumni Pavilion Thursday.

The 20 were among nearly 100 who were nominated by company CEOs, human resources and management professionals for the awards program initiated by the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance - the city-appointed economic development corporation - two years ago.

The goal of Young Professionals is to develop emerging leaders and attract and retain diverse young talent throughout the Lubbock region.

Award winners honored included:

• Richard Anthony Baker, Texas Tech.

• Emily L. Bennett, CPA, Caraway, McMahon & Co.

• Bronson Blodgett, vice president of finance, Atmos Energy.

• Anita Blakey, program coordinator, Communities in Schools on the South Plains.

• Brian Borthwick, system director of business operations, Suddenlink Communications.

• Zach Brady, president, ZS Brady & Co.

• Mindy Brashears, associate professor, Department of Animal Food and Sciences, Texas Tech.

• May Jane Buerkle, vice president of business development, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce.

• William J. Davis Jr., presidential adviser, federal and international affairs, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.

• Carrier Edwards, assistant professor, School of Nursing, TTHSC.

• Karen Esquibel, assistant professor, School of Nursing, TTHSC.

• Alisa Falls, director public relations/marketing, Lubbock Heart Hospital.

• Cindy Harper, associate director, United Spirit Arena, Texas Tech.

• Kendra Landsdell, owner, Miss Social Butterfly LLC.

• Jamey Phillips, partner, Phillips & McLaren LLP.
