Hot Pursuit Training
Reported by: Emily Leonard
Monday, Oct 1, 2007 @06:18pm CST It's the need for speed! You see and hear of high speed chases right here on KAMC 28 News... officers in hot pursuit of a suspect. Monday some of Lubbock's finest brushed up on their driving skills. The sound of sirens and screeching tires were heard out at the Reese Technology Center where the officers did their training. During the course, officers are evaluated on a variety of skills and timed courses, including sudden stops, weaving through cones, and high speed chases. These are all manuevers they say are crucial when being out in the field and could mean the difference between life and death. "It's the fact is they drive everyday. Most of them won't pull their weapon in the line of duty today but they will drive today so that's why we train for this," Sergeant Robert Hook, with the Lubbock Police Department, said. LPD officers must be recertified about every other year. KAMC 28 Link
